“Our countries have developed large-scale joint plans in the economic and humanitarian spheres, and we hope this will continue for many years,” Putin said.
Accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Russian leader noted that October 2 will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with China and invited Li to attend the Eastern Economic Forum, which will be held in September in Vladivostok.
Putin also sent his best wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is expected to attend the BRICS summit on October 22-23 in the Russian city of Kazan. Premier Li highlighted that the Russian economy has grown steadily over the past two years under Putin’s successful leadership.
“As a friend and neighbor, China is sincerely pleased with these achievements,” Li said, noting that bilateral relations “are at an unprecedentedly high level” in history.
Previously, Li Qiang and Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an investment cooperation plan and memorandums of cooperation in transportation and the chemical industry. These commitments include more than 60 projects valued at over US$138 billion.
“We are facing very challenging external conditions… Therefore, it is important to focus our efforts on defending our common interests, building a multipolar world order, and coordinating on the international stage,” Mishustin said.
The Russian prime minister accused Western countries of adopting illegitimate sanctions and resorting to unfair competition methods in order to “maintain their global hegemony and constrain the economic and technological potential of Russia and China.”
For his part, Li expressed being “fully convinced” of the future strengthening of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. “The China-Russia friendship has withstood international turbulence and has a long history. Our friendship is solid, strong, and unbreakable. It is our valuable shared achievement… Our multilateral cooperation demonstrates colossal strength,” he asserted.
Li emphasized that China is willing to move forward firmly with Russia along the path set by the leaders of both countries for the benefit of their peoples and “for justice throughout the world.”
